Join Our Team
Most of our technicians will tell you the same thing about their first week: they didn’t expect the job to be this specific. Not specific in a complicated way – specific in a satisfying way. You learn exactly how to read an attic, where heat is bleeding out and why, and what it takes to fix it so a family stops paying for air they’re losing through the ceiling. That’s the job. You do it right, you leave the house cleaner than you found it, you take a photo before you go, and you move on to the next one knowing something real got done. Neil Barron built Thistledown Attic Insulation on that standard in 2003, and it hasn’t changed. If you want work where the quality of your effort shows up the same day you put it in, keep reading.
Who We’re Looking For
- Attic Insulation Installer: Comfortable working in tight spaces, good with their hands, and the kind of person who checks the finished job before they call it done.
- Spray Foam Technician: Detail-oriented and calm under pressure – spray foam applied wrong is expensive to correct, so this role suits someone who slows down before the trigger, not after.
- Lead Installer / Crew Lead: An experienced installer ready to run a two- or three-person crew, keep the job on schedule, and hold the team to the same standards they hold themselves.
- Insulation Apprentice: No prior experience required – just physical readiness, a willingness to learn, and the kind of work ethic that doesn’t need to be managed every hour.
- Dispatcher / Scheduling Coordinator: Organized, clear on the phone, and good at holding multiple moving pieces without letting any of them drop. You’re the link between the customer and the crew.
- Customer Service Representative: A steady, warm voice who can explain a written estimate without rushing, answer a worried homeowner’s question without reading from a script, and genuinely care how the call ends for the person on the other line.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Clear Path Forward
We don’t hand you a hard hat and point you at a ladder. New hires work alongside experienced installers from day one, learning the systems – attic diagnostics, product selection across eight brand lines including Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, and GreenFiber – before running anything independently. Apprentices who put in the effort move to lead installer. Lead installers build the kind of reputation that opens doors within the Cedarwell network. The path is real and it moves at the pace you earn it.
Work You Can Actually Stand Behind
Every job we run is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise – if something isn’t right, we come back and fix it, no debate. That standard makes this a different kind of job. You’re not trying to get off a job site before the customer looks closely. You want them to look closely, because you know the work holds up. Shoe covers, drop cloths, a cleanup photo before we leave – those aren’t rules someone imposed on the crew. They’re how people who take pride in their work naturally do things.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Thistledown location is independently owned and operated, which means you know your manager, you know your crew, and the work is local. But you’re also backed by the Cedarwell family of insulation companies – shared training, shared standards, and the Cedarwell Care Promise that runs through every job across every location. It’s a genuinely good combination: small-team culture without the instability that sometimes comes with small operations.
Steady, Year-Round Demand
Insulation isn’t seasonal the way some trades are. Attics lose heat in winter and gain it in summer, and homeowners notice their energy costs in both. That means work comes in consistently across the calendar, not in a spring rush followed by a slow fall. If you want a trade where the phone keeps ringing because the problem never goes away, insulation is a smart place to be.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve spent time in construction, general labor, moving, warehousing, HVAC, or any job that asked you to work in uncomfortable conditions and still do it right – you’ve already built most of what this role needs. Physical stamina, attention to confined spaces, the habit of protecting a customer’s property while you’re in it: those transfer directly.
What we teach is the insulation-specific part. You’ll learn how to read an attic for air gaps and thermal bridging, how to choose the right product from our eight brand lines for the space and the family’s needs – including pet-safe options where they’re available – and how to work to the Cedarwell Care Promise on every visit. The first months look like this: shadow a lead, ask a lot of questions, handle increasingly independent tasks as your confidence and accuracy build. Neil Barron started Thistledown because he wanted to do this work the right way. He’d rather train someone willing than inherit someone sloppy.
How to Apply
Call us at (909) 768-6501 – a live person answers every call, around the clock – or use the application form below. When you reach out, let us know where you’re based, what kind of work you’ve done (even if it’s not insulation), and when you’re available to start. Hiring happens locally through the Thistledown location nearest you, so the more specific you are about your area, the faster we can connect you with the right crew.
